PTI Acceptor Tools for PC
How to Program, Configure, and Diagnose your Acceptor
1.
Setup
Download and run the setup program to install this application.
This should also install the FTDI USB (Virtual Com Port) drivers
you need to make the USB connection.
2.
Connection
Connect your Apex or Trilogy Bill Acceptor to your PC, using
the PTI USB Flash Cable (Part Number 05AA0026). You may see
a series of messages indicating the new hardware is found by
Windows at this time.
3
. Run the Acceptor Tools program
The program should automatically detect if you have a Trilogy
or Apex connected. If an acceptor is not detected, check the
connections and use the "Reconnect" option
to try again.

If you are unable
to connect, look in the Device Manager (Control Panel, System,
Hardware) and look under "Ports (Com & LPT)." You
should see one item that says "USB Serial Port", followed
by the port number in parenthesis. If not, you
may need to uninstall and reinstall the FTDI Virtual Com Port
(VCP) drivers. You can download the latest drivers from FTDI's
website http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm.
4. Menu Options
The program has three main functions; Status/Diagnostics, Configuration,
and Flash Programming. Click on "Options" to
access these three menus:
5. Status / Diagnostics
Click on "Get Status Report from Acceptor"
to open this screen. This screen will tell you what type of acceptor
is connected, which currency is accepted, and the revision level
of the firmware in the acceptor. Additional information may be
displayed, depending on the firmware in the acceptor.
The lower (diagnostic) area will display any errors. For certain
interface types, your acceptor may be disabled (no lights flashing)
until you connect it to the host system (vending controller, kiosk
computer, etc.). Therefore, it is common to see the error:
"Acceptor Disabled by Host."

6. Configuration
Click on "Configure Bill Acceptor" to
view this screen.
To see how the acceptor is already configured, click on the button
which says, "Read Acceptor's Current Configuration."
To change the Configuration settings:
In the yellow box, click on the interface type you plan to use.
In the pink box, place a check mark next to the bill number for
each denomination you wish to enable.
Select your Bezel Flashing, Security, and Direction options.
If you are using a Pulse Interface:
Select "Slow Pulse" for 50ms / 300ms timing, and Fast
Pulse for 50ms / 50ms timing.
Enter the pulse multiplier in the "Pulses per Dollar"
box. Example: For the Euro, if you enter "1" in this box,
the acceptor will issue one (1) pulse for the 5 Euro, two (2) pulses
for the 10 Euro, and four (4) pulses for the 20 Euro. If you want
5, 10, and 20 pulses to be issued, then enter "5" in this
box.
When you have finished modifying the configuration, click on the
button which says "Send Configuration to Acceptor" After
configuration is complete you will hear the acceptor restart. You
should see a "Config OK" message. If not, the check the
connection to the bill acceptor, cycle power, click on reconnect,
and try to configure again.

7 . Flash Programming
Click on "Program Acceptor (Flash Download)"
to display this screen.
This allows you to update the firmware in your acceptor, assuming
you have obtained the latest firmware file and saved it to a folder
on your PC. In the example below, the firmware file is titled: "T5EUR100.PDB"
(Trilogy, Euro, version 1.00).
Using the "Drives" and "Browse Folders" boxes,
locate the folder on your PC where your firmware files are stored.
Next, select the file you wish to use for reprogramming your acceptor.
Do this by clicking on the file in the "File Listing"
box (this will highlight the filename).
Finally, click on "Program Acceptor with Selected File"
to begin the Flash programming process.
Do not disconnect the acceptor during this procedure. When the programming
is complete, the acceptor will reset itself, and you should see
a message indicating success. If the Flash programming fails for
any reason, check all connections, click on "Reconnect",
and try again.
